Il termine iconografia deriva dal greco eikṓn -kónos (immagine) e -graphía (grafia) e significa letteralmente “descrizione delle immagini”. È la disciplina, legata alla storia dell’arte, che si occupa di decifrare il significato delle immagini, cercando di identificare, interpretare e classificare i soggetti e i temi raffigurati delle opere d’arte e le fonti da cui essi derivano.

Più in generale, le iconografie descrivono l’insieme dei motivi e criteri che distinguono e inquadrano le immagini dal punto di vista culturale. Si tratta di quegli apparati compositivi che nel corso del tempo si adattano a uno o più soggetti in particolare, permettendone il riconoscimento e la comprensione. Esistono, infatti, determinate strutture compositive che, a forza di essere usate per la loro bontà percettiva nell’esprimere alcuni soggetti, finiscono per applicarsi stabilmente a essi. In questo modo, tali schemi diventano portatori di un significato univoco, convenzionalmente accettato all’interno della cultura di riferimento, come accade per i segni della scrittura.

The term iconography derives from the Greek eikṓn -kónos (image) and -graphía (handwriting) and literally means “description of images”. It is the discipline, linked to the history of art, which deals with deciphering the meaning of images, trying to identify, interpret and classify the subjects and themes depicted in the works of art and the sources from which they derive.

More generally, the iconographies describe the set of motifs and criteria that distinguish and frame the images from a cultural point of view. These are those compositional apparatuses that over time adapt to one or more subjects in particular, allowing them to be recognized and understood. There are, in fact, certain compositional structures which, by dint of being used for their perceptive goodness in expressing some subjects, end up applying themselves stably to them. In this way, these schemes become bearers a unique meaning, conventionally accepted within the reference culture, as happens with the signs of writing.

WORKING METHODS:

Each student is guided in a workshop path that starts from the knowledge of the anatomical studies of the body through the real observation of the living model. In this regard, one hundred drawings on A3 size paper will have to be created respecting the themes indicated below.
